English Language Arts

Grade 11 Literature course is designed to facilitate students as they progressively learn more advanced strategies for analyzing and defining unknown words and chunks of text, leading to greater reading comprehension. Students become more confident and independent writers and progress in their analytical writing proficiency. Additionally, students progress in their oral proficiency, including vocabulary acquisition and language control, through a variety of conversational activities.

Socratic Seminar focuses on the Socratic Method and the art of persuasion in writing and speaking. Students have the opportunity to explore different texts and media and engage in a variety of inquiry-based dialogues.

English Language Literacy goes beyond the study of literature alone. Literacy has multiple components, including oral literacy (listening and speaking skills), print literacy (writing and reading skills), and cultural and conceptual knowledge. In other words, while literature is necessary, it is not sufficient, and our course, therefore, includes content knowledge from courses such as Philosophy and Social Studies.
